The design philosophy of Britannian warships in recent decades has concentrated on using multiple weapon systems of varying calibres, providing as much overlapping firepower as possible. The Ruler Class Battleship is an excellent example of this policy in ship construction, with four main turrets holding primary ordinance, two broadsides fitted with secondary ordinance, and torpedo batteries firing into three arcs.

The Tribal Class Cruiser and the Attacker Class Frigate have only two turrets and are not fitted with broadside batteries, but they also have torpedo tubes in one or more arcs. A Britannian squadron therefore has the potential to attack many different targets, or mass a lot of firepower against a single target. Even when individual Britannian ships like the Ruler Class are surrounded, they can still prove to be a dangerous foe, while the Majesty Class Dreadnought has taken this concept to another level with a total of six turrets in addition to broadsides and torpedoes.

Britannian commanders are often quite happy to steam in to the middle of an enemy formation and let rip with their guns, although some are more cautious, and take advantage of the forward facing firepower of their ships. Given that the Ruler and Majesty Class can both replace their turrets with Shield Generators; they can approach enemy formations at a slow pace, relying on their forward firing turrets (backed up with torpedoes) causing enough damage to outweigh the loss of up to half their primary firepower (in the process of the fitting the generators).

At long and medium range the Shield Generators are usually enough to take the bite out of enemy shots, allowing the Ruler or Majesty Class to last longer with reduced firepower until their targets are sufficiently weakened to close in for the kill. The Avenger Fleet Carrier may not have access to generators, but it also capable of getting in amongst enemy squadrons and mixing it up. It has four turrets and two broadsides, plus a potent battery of torpedo tubes facing forward, giving it the ability to provide solid backup to its Battle Group where other fleet carriers are sometimes more vulnerable.

The Bastion Class Escort provides much needed anti-rocket and anti-torpedo defences, while a squadron of Orion Class Destroyers can launch a very effective combined torpedo attack against its enemies. A Britannian Battle Group can therefore rely on torpedo attacks as a core weapon system if it so chooses. As the anti-torpedo defences of enemy ships are weakened by damage, making Britannian ships more of a threat as a battle progresses, because their torpedoes retain their effectiveness in spite of any damage.
